Anita worked with Google and Art Collective 'Studio Blasta' to Project Manage and transform a corridor at Crumlins Children's Hospital. This project took 8 months to complete.
"Every day hundreds of little patients are walked or even rolled up and down the long corridor in Crumlin Hospital. It can be a bit scary for kids and stressful for parents as they head for treatment for a variety of issues from cancer to cystic fibrosis. But now, thanks to the fantastic creative talents of Anita, Blath and Aisling of Studio Blasta and the Trojan work of Vision, this journey is now joyful. They now adventure down the Magical Corridor, wondering at the colours, the characters and the Curiosity Shop. Every time they walk past they see something new. For just a few minutes they are lost in a world of imagination and fun. " Sarah O' Suilleabhain, CMRF Crumlin
'We at Studio Blasta felt extremely passionate about this project and from our first visit to the bare walls of the Long Corridor we jumped at the chance to transform the busy thoroughfare. We spent a lot of time researching the positive effect that artwork can have on children's recovery and the type of imagery that would be most effective. We spent time chatting to children about our ideas, listened to their reactions and really tried to understand what would spark their imagination". Studio Blasta
The artists have created a world where only the magical can appear, a world where there are 'Rainbow People' who are bursting with colour and music. A city scape where you can choose what type of Superhero you would like to be, buy a potion that allows you to fly, delve into the windows of the 'Curiousity Shop' where you can purchase a glass eye or a dragon's tail and see transformers who play hurling! There's an 'Explore Dublin' creation that encourages children to dream big, where Molly Malone has been replaced by Elsa from Frozen and where penguins wear top hats and carry briefcases. 'In the Jungle' you can find adorable animals hiding amongst the lush foliage. Next in 'An Gairdin Draiochta' it is compulsory for all animals to wear plants on their heads, mother goose sports a pearl necklace and yes the frog is wearing lipstick! 'OMG, A Circus' creates a nerve wracking scene where a baby elephant is just about to jump on a seesaw with a monkey on the other end, 'UH OH' this won't end well! All these funny and lovable creatures make up the creation that was designed for you, The Magical Corridor.
